Make A Statement

                                                           by: Brandy Matthew

Ever been in the situation where your outfit looks plain and boring (I know I have).  Like a plain t-shirt, jeans, and flats.  Well dress it up with a statement accessory!  Statement pieces are basically accessories that are big, bold, and colorful.  For example a cheetah print scarf would instantly make the t-shirt, jeans, and flats ensemble pop!  A colorful bib necklace can easily make a plain black dress look like your ready to go to the Grammy's.  Statement pieces can be almost anything like a scarf, a huge necklace, chandelier earrings, bright bangles, or even a bow tie, the possibilities are endless.  You can find them anywhere and they can even be made with stuff at home.  Like an old flower arrangement, just remove the stems, then tape a bobby pin to a flower and VOILA!  You have a flower pin.  My favorite statement piece is a gold owl necklace I recently got with colorful beads.  So remember when you have the whole "OMG! What am I gonna wear!?"  A statement piece is always  the way to go.

GEEK ALERT!

                                                  GEEK ALERT !
                                           By: Brandy Matthew

GEEK ALERT ! When you the words geek or nerd you probably immediately think of braces, glasses, zits, and super high-waisted pants(which in some cases can be really cute).  You probably even think of Star Trek.  Well now think again, it's a new trend.  Nowadays when you look around you see "nerdy glasses"(also known as wayfarers), suspenders, and bow ties.  I myself have even rocked those quite a few times.  Now you might be wondering how can i recreate this.  It's simple really and can be very inexpensive.  Have you ever been to a 3D movie?  If you have, then DON'T throw away the black thick-framed glasses, just remove the lenses and VOILA!  You've got your very own nerdy glasses.  For suspenders you can buy them at a variety of places.  For example Hot Topic, Claire's, 5 Below, even Amazon, or get 4 safety pins and 2 long pieces of ribbon.  Just criss-cross the ribbon at your back and pin them to your pants.  Now a bow tie is one of my personal favorites.  You can get them almost anywhere and they are really easy to make.  Just use a medium sized rectangle of felt, duct tape, or newspaper(don't wear in the rain).  Fold it in the center, wrap a long thin rectangular piece of the same kind of material you're using around the center fold (and if your using felt sew it to the bow) and add a pin to attach it to your shirt.  It's really easy and can be very inexpensive to recreate the "nerdy" look and can be rocked by virtually anyone.  Are you willing to try it, and if you have do you add a touch of your own personal style?
