It's that time of year again ladies. Spring Formal, and that means dresses, heels, jewelry, the whole shebang. But, this may be a tough time for the more let's say, fashionably challenged. There are so many choices and with formal coming around the corner, you don't have much time left. So that's what I'm here for.
Let's start off with color, shall we? To begin, color is a major player in your formal ensemble. The right color needs to be chosen, otherwise you'll end up being washed out and we don't want that in our pictures now do we? First, figure out if your a warm or cool, meaning figuring out whether warm or cool colors look better on you. The simplest way to do this is through the gold and silver test. To do this get a piece of gold jewelry and a piece of silver jewelry, then hold them both up to you in natural light (sunlight) and choose which ever one looks better. Now if you look better with gold then your a warm and if you look better with silver then your a cool. Now warm people tend to look better in colors like pinks, teals, yellows, reds, oranges, browns, and greens. Meanwhile cool people tend to look better in dark blues and pinks, purples, and dark greens. Basically, just get your colors right and your good.
Next is shape. Face it, we're not all ballerinas, but that does not mean anyone looks like an elephant. Not only is color an important part of what you wear to formal but so is the shape, neckline and length of the dress. Now there are fifteen main body types, now you're thinking "OMG, how am I gonna figure out which one I am?" Well it's simple really the fifteen body types are as follows:
Pear: Smaller up top, but widens at the waist. They look best in dresses with a cinched waist and flared bottom.
Petite and Compact: They're usually small and short. They look best in form-fitting dresses. Boyish:They're usually well, boyish. These girls can bring back flapper-esque dresses.
Soccer Legs: Strong, and nice legs. You can pull off a shorter hem. Preferably A-line.
Short Torso: You may have long legs but your middle may be on the petite side. Try A-line dresses to lengthen your middle.
Hourglass: Because you have the pin-up build, you'd look great in a dress with a v-neck, flared skirt, and a belt.
Carrot: Your legs are the narrowest part of your body and to show them off a midi-dress that stops around your lower calves will look best.
Busty: Now ladies, to look your best, wear a dress with a flared skirt and thick straps.
Swimmer's Shoulders: Now you guys have broader shoulders, so peplum dresses will help to balance out your top proportions.
Short Legs: Now you girls will look best in springy maxi-dresses with a belt that's slightly higher than your natural waist.
Ballerina: Your body is long and lean, so wear something flouncy with a Bohemian silhouette.
Apple: Because most of your weight is around the middle wear something loose around that area.
MObama Arms: Because of your well defined biceps, go for something with thin straps to show off your amazing arms.
Small-Chested: Becasue of your lacking in the upper area, wear something with pleats or ruffles to give the illusion of having more in that area.
Botticelli: Now these ladies may not be as defined as the hourglass but they are definitely curvy and look good in wrap dresses.
Hopefully this helped you figure out your body type, not only for now but also for later in the future.
Now for the accessories. This includes shoes, jewelry, hair accents, and nails. First off shoes, probably one of the easiest things to choose. Just find a pair that are comfortable and go well with your dress. Simple. Jewelry is a little more difficult, because of the great variety. My advice is if your dress is complex, go with simple jewelry, and if your dress is simple, go with jewelry that's more on the intricate side. For your hair accessories, flowers, bows, headbands, and even barrettes will look good just don't overdo it. Finally, painting your nails. Try to go with simple designs and patterns or even a french manicure would work, just don't go overboard and come to formal with two-inch acrylics or something.
Finally, as a side note DON'T disobey school dress code. Meaning no strapless dresses and dresses must stop by at least the middle fingertips. But have fun with it.
She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten.

Accessories Storage DIY
Do you have the issue of too much accessories and no where to easily put display them? Well I used to have that issue, but figured out a quick fix to that issue. With this you can hang up all if your accessories. Like hats, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, hair pins, hair clips, rings, and headbands. For this DIY you will need:
•A large cork board
•Spray paint or regular quick dry paint(optional)
•Panel nails
•Ribbon(optional)
•Bead string
•Thumb tacks
This step is completely optional but if done needs to be done first, you need to paint or spray paint your cork board and the frame of it the color of your choice (This step is to make it more personalized and prettier). If this step is done, wait until your cork board is completely dry for you to continue.
Next thing to do is to decide your layout. (I went with tying the ends of a piece of bead string, the width of my cork board, to two nails and stretching it so the string goes across the top of my cork board). Once you've decided on the layout put the nails in according to that.
The next step is putting up the ribbon. The purpose of ribbon in this DIY is to have a place to put hair pins and other clips. So to do this cut a piece of ribbon to whatever length you want within reason and take a thumb tack and pin one end of the ribbon to the cork board. Next you get another thumb tack and stretch the ribbon and pin the other end if it to the cork board.
To finish hang your cork board up and put your jewelry and other accessories on it. To hang stud earrings up you can just press the stud into the cork board. Now enjoy and notice the ease of getting ready.

Glitter Shoes DIY
Wanna spice up some old footwear? Well it's not as difficult as people say, you only need Mod Podge (fabric glue), old shoes, glitter and any other accents you may want to add to your shoes. To begin gather all of your supplies along with a few cotton swabs, paper bowls, newspaper, sponge brushes, and some water. Next lay the newspaper over your work surface and pour some glitter (whatever color you want) in the bowls(a different bowl for each color unless you want rainbow glitter).

After remove the laces and that put some Mod Podge on your sponge brush and put the glue where you want the glitter to stick ( don't make overly complicated patterns). Hold your shoes above the bowl of glitter and sprinkle glitter over the glue until it's completely covered (the glue spots). Repeat until you have the desired areas of your shoes covered with glitter. When your done let them dry for half an hour or until nothing comes off on your finger when you touch the glittered areas. Make sure the glitter is hard to the touch. Paint Mod Podge onto the glittered area so it lasts. Let this dry for another quarter to half of an hour. Have fun wearing these!

New Year, New Closet Staples
It's a New Year and you know what that means. Time to start afresh and make sure you have all of your closet essentials. You may not know what they are, but that's why I'm here. Here are the top seven.
For starters everyone needs a white v-neck or scoop neck t-shirt. I cannot stress enough how important these are. They are so important for your everyday wardrobe, even though you probably have one or two. The reason they're so important is because they can be worn with anything, dressed up or dressed down. You can wear them with jeans, flats and a cardigan(which are also very important). Or with a floral skirt, sandals, and a belt. The possibilities are endless which is why they are so important.
Another equally important closet essential is a pair of flattering dark-washed jeans. They can also be worn with anything, dressed up or down they are very versatile. Make sure they are comfortable and not to tight otherwise you'll want to rip them off ASAP(trust me I know from experience). But overall comfortable, dark-washed, flattering jeans are another important closet staple.
Leather Jackets are one of my favorite closet staples. The reason being they add an extra touch of edge to every outfit. A good leather jacket shouldn't be overly tight or baggy otherwise it wont look good. They're so much more versatile and chic than a hooded sweatshirt, not to mention warmer. If you're anything like me you crave that edge and twist on an otherwise girly outfit.
A little black dress or LBD for short is one of the most classy pieces you can own for various reasons. For one it can be worn casually if it's the right shape and paired with the right accessories and shoes. An example of this is a leather jacket, strapless body-con LBD,converse, and simple silver accessories. Or it can be worn formally if again its paired with the right accessories and shoes. An example of this is a hi-lo hem LBD, black pumps, and gold accessories. The versatility of the LBD is amazing.
Ballet flats are another one of the top ten. Ballet flats are so important because like most of this stuff can be worn with just about anything. You can pair it with a simple outfit like jeans and a plain t-shirt or if your not a heel type of girl with a formal dress. Ballet flats are so amazing because they come in so many different colors, patterns, and decals (I've seen one of my friends donning a cheetah print pair with ruffles and studs). Or you can for a more simple pair in nude or black. Either way ballet flats are one of the best types of footwear.
A black blazer is also another one of my favorites. The reason being is just like a leather jacket adds edge these add class. Now you may be thinking only businesswomen and men wear them, but not true. They can add a touch of seriousness to the outfit when needed. They can be worn with almost any and every outfit and that's what makes them so awesome.
The final closet essential is a long-sleeved, button-up shirt. They seem unlikely but when you think about it you can wear it open over a graphic tee with the sleeves rolled up with jeans and converse for a casual look. Or you can wear it buttoned up with jeans and oxfords for a classy modern take on the average uniform. They are classy and casual and come in a variety of different styles, colors, and patterns. In finality button-ups are an unlikely yet very important essential.

Make A Statement
by: Brandy Matthew
Ever been in the situation where your outfit looks plain and boring (I know I have). Like a plain t-shirt, jeans, and flats. Well dress it up with a statement accessory! Statement pieces are basically accessories that are big, bold, and colorful. For example a cheetah print scarf would instantly make the t-shirt, jeans, and flats ensemble pop! A colorful bib necklace can easily make a plain black dress look like your ready to go to the Grammy's. Statement pieces can be almost anything like a scarf, a huge necklace, chandelier earrings, bright bangles, or even a bow tie, the possibilities are endless. You can find them anywhere and they can even be made with stuff at home. Like an old flower arrangement, just remove the stems, then tape a bobby pin to a flower and VOILA! You have a flower pin. My favorite statement piece is a gold owl necklace I recently got with colorful beads. So remember when you have the whole "OMG! What am I gonna wear!?" A statement piece is always the way to go.

Bib Necklace-A style of necklace that mimics a baby's bib, with a thick section on
the chest and a thin cord going around the back of the neck..
